Concert 14th September

By Le Chœur de l’Aude

The opening of the "Journées Européennes du Patrimoine"

Sixty singers and choirmasters, directed by William Hedley and accompanied by the organist Florent Mamet.

Under the direction of William Hedley, a choirmaster of the highest standard, the Chœur de l’Aude enjoys high-level training, combining the discovery of new repertoires with the interpretation of classical and traditional work.

This concert for choir, tenor solo and organ, is dedicated to sacred music. It begins with ‘Hail Virgin’ by the Estonian composer Arvo Pärt, creator of refined contemporary music based on deeply religious inspiration and finishes with ‘Sing to the Lord’ by the same composer.
The programme, dedicated in part to the Virgin Mary with renditions of ‘Hail, Holy Queen’ composed by Schubert and Pergolesi, also includes moving excerpts from two masterpieces of baroque music, Handel’s Messiah and a poignantly simple piece composed by Purcell for the funeral of Mary Stuart, Queen of Scots.

A sublime concert to close the Vendredis Classiques 2018 season.
