STABAT MATER, PERGOLESI / STABAT MATER, VIVALDI
The Baroque Orchestra of Toulouse
A string orchestra with 7 musicians, a soprano and a contralto, directed by Michel Brun
Eliette Parmentier (soprano) - Caroline Champy-Tursun (contralto)
The suffering of a mother faced with the death of her son is a universal theme… Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater is beautiful and moving, closely resembling chamber opera with its richness of emotion and musical effects.
Vivaldi’s Stabat Mater is more introspective, delivering a simple range of colour and effect, while leaving the expression of key moments to the alto voice.
The mother’s pain is evoked with force, depth and delicacy by the balanced voices of the two soloists: pure, supple and crystalline in the case of soprano Eliette Parmentier; a warm, clear timbre with expressive diction for the contralto Caroline Champy-Tursun.
Michel Brun, whose reputation is second to none, skilfully directs the instrumentalists, each capable of solo performance.
This is a performance for all music lovers.
